- allows exhaustive testing for and locking out of bad sectors at the controller level
-  allows flexible low-level formatting of the hard disk, interleave adjustment, and easy entry of manufacturer's bad track information
-  tests for optimum disk interleave, without reformatting
- compatible with all variations of PC and MS-DOS, version 1.1 through 3.3 and supports disks up to 1024 cylinders and 16 heads
